We used to call them “ ego - portraits , ” and they were one of the comfortably known tropes of all right artwork . Now we call ’em “ selfies ” and masses get super judgmental . Either way , here are your selfies portraits .

RB67
Shooting summary : Camera – Mamiya RB67 Lens – 127 millimeter f/3.5 ( 62 mm equivalent weight in 35 millimetre term ) moving-picture show – Portra 400 Aperture – f.3.5 Shutter Speed – 1/500th Story behind the snapshot : While a classic “ search through the camera ” selfie , this image is one of my favourite random self - portraits I ’ve ever take . I was just walking around my parent ’s back yard at the time and notice my reflection in the garage threshold windowpane . Once I looked through the waist - level viewfinder , I note how it captured my reflection , the junk in the garage ( they had just displace ) , as well as what was behind me . I composed the jibe cautiously , as I ’ve come up accustomed to doing as a film lensman , I metered for my skin ( with a handheld meter ) , and snapped the photo . The roll sat in my desk draftsman for quite some meter before I had it developed , but once I received the scans back from Richard Photo Lab , I was amazed at how incredible this shot turned out . When you fuse the reflection , the debris in the garage , and the subtle calorie-free leak ( from myself accidentally drop it take it out of the RB67 ) , it looks as though it was a multiple exposure shot , when it was just one shot as a reflection .

Unemployment
I was sitting in my livelihood room watching TV and browsing Gizmodo ( Another 24-hour interval unemployed as a Performer in New York City ) when I point out the sun coiffure over the urban center and I decided to run up on the roof and try my fortune at a self portrait . I fix up my Nikon D5100 with a Nikon DX AF - S NIKKOR 18 - 70 mm lens system on a tripod with the separation timekeeper set to take a picture every second . This equaled lashings of picture of me run to and from the camera and mistimed dance moves . I in the end get the hang of the timing and got this exposure . Dance is a vast part of who I am and a huge part of my career so it only seemed innate to admit it in my self portrayal . Exposure 1/250 , f/8 .

I buy myself a fresh television camera ( and , at a friend ’s suggestion , a copy of Lightroom ) for my birthday and I ’ve decide to set about a 52 - week project to improve my photography . I picture there will be more than a few self - portraits involve , and when I watch the Giz challenge this week , I figured why not start with myself . I ’ve clean familiar with Photoshop , but I know next to nothing of Lightroom . I desire to learn quite a bit from this . The icon was film on a Nikon D7100 , 24 mm , f/3.8 , ISO 100 . I shoot in RAW and applied a slight exposure fitting , a couple of skin touching - ups , and crop the range of a function in Lightroom . I used Photoshop only to resize the image for submission .

snappy
This ego - portrait was shot with my Canon T2i and 50 mm f/1.8 lens with these place setting : f/5.6 ; ¼ sec ; ISO 800 . The apparatus was the camera on a tripod , window lightness for lighting , and a spare bloodless bulwark as a back drib . On the editing side , I just did a little touch up in Photoshop . I call this one “ obeisance Tie and Pencil Mustache . ” I had been growing my moustache for the last couple week and my wife hates it ! I lie with it of course of study , and I wanted to document it while I still had it . I come across this contest and I was pep up by the awe-inspiring mustache of the guy rope in the representative . So I trim mine down to a neat pencil mustache and took this picture . I enjoyed how it turned out and thought I would share .

Melons … hold back … Yeah , Melons
Had you announced the challenge one week ago , you would see a “ winter me ” : unelaborated , uncut beard and longish , not dead clean hair . But that is past , the summer is close , time for spring cleaning . So once I assume out the t - shirt you see on the motion picture from the closet I already screw what it ’s gon na be about . I got onto my motorbike , packed Nikon 5100 , 35 millimetre lens , buy some lemons and melon ( yes , I did juggle melon vine too ! ) and proceed sight - beholding around Montreal . On this muddy day there was no trouble with gamey - sun shadows . Still DOF is not too great because I want to capture the movement , while keep the face sharp – f1/9 @ 1/50s proved the good setting . Last but not least , I had enough of sad B&W portraits , so I decided this one will be a happy one , even if a bit autoironic . So , I opine , the motto for this summer is : ‘ if animation gives you lemons , learn to hoodwink them ! ’ 🙂

Burschenschaft
I used the front came of my htc One . The flick was shot with an exposure of 1/17 and ISO 160 . It does passably nice in dark setting and I must say I really wish the distorted shape by the dissonance – as long as you may still understandably see the subject . The mise en scene I pick out is the position I spend most time – my workdesk . It is surrounded by the thing a care for : my basso guitar , games , film , euphony and mostly books . On the bass is the traditional cap of a German “ Burschenschaft ” or fraternity I am part of . The other crucial things you ca n’t see still play a persona in the picture , though : my screen furnish the illumination and my PC ’s power LED the bluish drop shadower . You even can get a climpse of the mess of papers I process with while studying . What this word-painting shows and what I wish in it is the cause I decide to expend it in the contest : you’re able to really differentiate al heap about someone just from one “ selfie ” .
– Ramon Pallaske
marvelous entry all around . I ’d say that you were all audacious to show your faces , but you ’re a thoroughly - looking clump , so it sort of does n’t count ! And in pillow slip you ’re a patriotic Shooting Challenge fan who imagines putting a alien ’s selfie as your background wallpaper , find the handsome shotson flickr .
