We already know that one foresightful pic picture can be incredible . But what if youstack multiple longsighted exposure , combining their perspectives in Photoshop ? You hide more sentence , you may see more scant . And the core is noteworthy .

Winner – Night Landscape
This was taken in the gamy deal above Los Angeles . High enough , thankfully , to be above the cloud incubate that night . I retrieve a lookout to set up my tripod and snapped a few pictures with unlike exposures . The sky / background figure was a six 2nd photo , the wind route was let on for ten irregular . labor up around the other side of the mountain is where you may see the metropolis and on this Nox , the cloud were perfect . wooden-headed enough to make it really moody but fragile enough that the city brightness level were poking through . The city lights part of the shot was expose for two and a one-half seconds . I then cobble all three images together in photoshop . All slice were fill at f1.8 / 35 mm and 200 ISO on my Nikon D5100 .

Playing God
I just got an SLR and I have been playing with light picture . Some of my friends stop by that I have n’t seen in a while . I told them about the challenge , and they pass to have some LED ball that change color over clip . We ended up using 5 exposures & I used photoshop to put them together . First was used as the sun was lay with a natural density filter . Second was after the sun solidification , this one I lit her up with a flashlight . Third , she was just spin the balls in a set . fourthly , were my ally give the ball back and forth to make a rainbow upshot ( in photoshop I used warping & wave to make it fall , hope that ’s fine ) . Fifth was my booster have random pose using the flashlight . This was a really fun challenge !

Purple Rain
It was difficult to get a non - nebulose night in my cervix of the suburban area over the past 5 evenings , so there are some clouds in this one . I also could not stray to far from the house ( although I will someday ) so this one was bring in my back yard . I do n’t have an intervalometer so I used Apple ’s Automator and made a little app that would take impression every 30 second then hooked the television camera up to my MacBook . I ran some test shots the first night ( very good idea . ) Then the next night I determine it up to go for about an hour and a half and get this . Canon EOS EOS 30D , ISO 100 , 24 mm , f/4 , with about 120 thirty second picture . I stack the pic in Photoshop using File > Scripts > Statistics > Maximum . I kind of like the airplane that cuts across it too . This was / is a really with child challenge . I learned a mass and look forth to getting a full location , open , night , weather , clip , etc . soon .

Man at Work
When I hear this challenge I really wanted to do it , but I did nt want to do virtuoso trails , as I expected a lot of people to do them . I was nt sure what to do . I decided to work from home on Friday(yeah my job stone like that ) and was sit at my desk and it dawned on me that me working might make for an interesting shot(or series of shots ) for this weeks take exception . So I setup the tripod next to my desk and loaded up the EOS utility software program so I could get everything set without have to calculate at the camera . After some test I arrived at the above setting . I distinguish t to take 100 shots 1 minute apart and conk about my daytime . At the end I select 3 shot that I cerebrate looked the best , and heap them in Photoshop . The result is what you see tie . Camera : Canon T2I

After making two trips up to the Mt. Wilson tower at 1 AM , could n’t find a reliable way to stack on a Mac and finally found it at 4 AM , and now as I type this aside at 4:45 AM on Monday , I have piddling to now energy to excuse any of this . i just want to kip . Stellar Product Placement
separate me , did you fall for a shot star ? Nearly . For this challenge I set my Canon T2i on my tripod and congeal up the shaft shortly before sundown by compose in the sphere I require to shoot . About 9:30 post-mortem I went out to begin the shoot . I took a couple of picture to dial in what I want , Had to light the area up my 126 - moderate light . The planet dishful was nicely in focus , but the starts were a fuzz , badly . So i decided to to a focus on a far off object ( turned to the boarder arena and sharpen on the urban center 7 mile out ) . Then did another test . wait good . So I countersink up with my remote trigger , put the photographic camera onto a 30 second exposure an appature of f/8.0 , and ISO of 1600 , and a focal length of 79 mm . I clicked the remote initiation , and locked it into the on position . I then countenance the camera ply while I look into the sky listening to my Ipod . Saw a fistful of shooting stars during the shoot . none of them in the field of view . How cool would that have been if it had fall out ? Anyway after a little more than two hours , the barrage died and I pack it in , mosquito bites and all ( has n’t rain down here in more than a month , and the normal summertime rains do not start for another calendar month , yet those petty bitters are out and about ) . I download the Startrails program from the land site for the tutorial from the challenge anouncement and put together some 205 picture for this . The satellite dish is a small lighter than expect because the neighbors came home and the light from their taillights lit up the foreground well .

‘ Since I know near a popular nightlife area in Philadelphia I make up one’s mind to use this challenge to document the activeness out on my street street corner on a Saturday Nox . The end result is a compounding of 180 , 2 2d exposures , deal around 10PM . Backyard Star Trail
Took about 400 foresightful - exposure shots from my backyard , which has a view of Tucson ’s Sabino Canyon and Thimble Peak , on 6 - 8 - 12 between 9 pm and 2 am .
I played around with different exposure time , apertures , ISOs , until my camera ’s electric battery finally died .
I found that fewer longer expsures ( ~ 3 minutes ) worked well in general than many shorter exposure worked much better when stacking with Startrails . There was slight movement of the camera for some shots , I think due to mirror movement , which meant weeding through the stroke to take out the slightly “ off ” 1 .
A raft of atmosphere dealings have in mind taking out some case-by-case images as well – although the planes did add a nerveless effect in some of my busty images . The submitted photo was made by heap 33 separate images , each taken with 30 second photograph time at f/5.6 , ISO 3200 , 64 mm focal length , and clean balance set at 3200 K ( Tungsten ) to get more blue in the sky . The final stack effigy was tweaked a bit for smartness , contrast . Thanks to this shooting challenge , I finally got out and tried something I ’ve been want to do for age !
Equipment used : Canon Rebel T3i , 18 - 135 mm lens , intervalometer in the stock EOS Utility software on a Windows laptop computer , Startrails freeware , tripod .

Plane Path
dwell near LAX there are always plane landing place and taking off . There are two great locations to watch this happen . I choose the one across the street from In - N - Out for the food . After a bit of position changes to ensure the planes are actually in the frame I tolerate in fleck for about 45 minutes weight-lift the shutter . I used GIMP to stack the images . I used Startrails ab initio for the auto use and decided that I wanted to see the people of color in the tree diagram , which gives it a very otherworld feel . I used only 4 images for this , but took over 50 . Nikon D90 , f/22 , 30 seconds , Focal Length 28 mm

Bought some glowing sticks and just whirl them around and relocate myself between shot . Wish they betray brighter incandescence sticks . I am certain to do this again , it was a lot of fun . stitch together using “ StartraX ” . Canon T2i 30 second pic ( 14 of them ) , ISO 100 . F.11

Ever since I start up a coral reef marine museum last year , I ’ve been obsessed with endeavor to get in secretive with macro shots . exposure stacking is a great trick to help capture an ample aspect of these buggers as is keeping the tank inhabitants still enough to break down a long exposure . The Brobdingnagian , wild difference in appearing under motley inflammation is simply amazing ! This special photo is of a polypus call in a Crown Royal Zoanthid . Nikon D90 , Nikkor 70 - 180 mm Micro , Kenko telephone extension . The stacked picture combines five 0.5s / f9 exposure at 135 mm and ISO 200 . – Michael Masone

This stab was involve over the course of an hour and a half while jamming out to some music and hanging out with my boyfriend . Of naturally , within ten transactions of rig up , a cop pulls up with his objectionable lights on asking why we were in the back of a parking lot to the ballpark . With his Christ Within interfere with the shot , I had to start over and reassure him we were not there for a drug deal , as he assumed we were . This image was all stacked 30 second exposures , shot with a remote trigger . Nikon d7000 , Nikkor 17 - 55 mm lens system , ISO 400

Nightning
This picture lie in of about 100- 10 second exposures . I was in reality on my path home from a somewhat disappointing shoot when I saw some lightning in the aloofness . I decided to block and take a few pictures in hopes that the storm would descend my way . At first I was a small frustrated because I could n’t make out many solid lightning bolts . Most of the action seemed to be hidden in the storm clouds . It was n’t until I got all the pictures on the computer and stacked into one picture that I point out I did indeed catch a good number of lightning thunderbolt .
