We all have them . Our shamed pleasance film . Movies we wish that we do n’t like to tell other people . Films that bestow us unbridled pleasure while make others cringe in pain . film so many people hate but you just , somehow , for whatever understanding , love . This is my list .
Here are 21 film that I ’m chagrined I like at all , let alone as much as I do , in alphabetical ordering .
Armageddon
Michael Bay ’s Armageddon was a massive hit . Everyone has escort it but few really retrieve it ’s that good . I ’m one of the believer . Sure , it ’s ridiculous , overly - dramatic and predictable . But Bay delivers undeniable visual pleasure and let in hilariously over - the - top characters featuring one most impressive mould of the 2000s , inexplicably formed in the ‘ 90s : Steve Buscemi , Owen Wilson , Ben Affleck , Peter Stormare , Michael Clarke Duncan , the list goes on and on .
Bolt
Bolt is about a dog who stars as a hero sandwich on his own TV show that actually trust he ’s a hero . He then goes out into the world to realize he ’s anything but . The fictional character are also voiced by Miley Cyrus and John Travolta . In my defence mechanism , it ’s get some dandy action scenes , impregnable emotions and is a perfect example of a Disney Animation bump off their stride right before thing really took off for them . This movie is extremely underrated although it ’s very embarrassing to say so .
Cannibal the Musical
We all know motion-picture show that are so bad they are secure . But what about movies that are so bad , you ca n’t believe they actually survive ? Cannibal the Musical is one of those . It was made by Trey Parker and Matt Stone when they were in college , and it absolutely feels like a student film . If you were watching it and someone walked in , you ’d flex it off immediately . But the songs and storytelling , albeit crude , show all the genius potential they ’d loose in late year .
Cars 2
Read any ranking of Pixar film and it ’s likely Cars 2 is near the bottom . I get that . Compared to most of the other films — and even the first Cars — it ’s very square and has almost no deepness . But in my thinker , cable car 2 is a badass undercover agent action movie , a sort of Pixar James Bond motion-picture show . No , it does n’t have the ringing of other Pixar motion picture but it ’s a hell of a lot of playfulness to view . I agree it ’s not Pixar ’s best but hey , their worst is still better than most .
Cloud Atlas
Cloud Atlas is a movie many detest , but those few who care it really like it . But I freaking be intimate it . I think it ’s a dependable chef-d’oeuvre , a work of movie perfection that should fend alongside the good films of Spielberg , Kubrick , and Hitchcock . patently , most citizenry would n’t agree . carbon monoxide gas - directors the Wachowskis and Tom Tykwer somehow make a flick that links multiple stories over multiple timelines , all with the same actors , work in perfect harmoniousness . I conserve the film is a Swiss lookout man that you have to watch over and over again to fully apprise .
Jason X, Freddy vs. Jason, and the 2009 Friday the 13th Reboot
I ’m wrapping three films together here because to me , they work together in a very nerveless direction . They also happen to largely get shit on by horror fans . I ’m not a huge , Brobdingnagian horror buff by any means but these three movies , in my mind , palm Jason the way I always want to see him . These film are so , so aware of what they are ; they do n’t take things badly and the payoff of Jason fighting Freddy was a transformative experience . I ’d check any of these movies over the rest of the franchise .
Independence Day
Again , this is n’t one I ’m alone on . Independence Day was a vast hit and has a lot of fans , but it ’s so chintzy and so stupid and oh god do I love it so much . I visualize it in theatre four prison term when it came out in 1996 . I saw it again before the horrible , horrible sequel . That ’s too much , but I have no sorrow . I look up to it as a singular piece of entertainment . The story is so large and sweeping that , monumental flaws aside , you ca n’t believe it ’s all in one movie . These Day , this one picture show would have been a trilogy , and that economy of storytelling really just still speaks to me . I still watch this flick whenever it ’s on .
Jumper
If these were ranked , this would in all probability be the most embarrassing photographic film on the list . I mean , it kind of sucks ; even I do it that . It stars Hayden Christensen and Rachel Bilson , for crying out aloud . But if you seek and ignore the mostly wooden execution , director Doug Liman does impress with the flick ’s radical merriment conception , interesting action successiveness , and plenitude of mute wish fulfilment . It ’s a movie you catch and think , “ This is high-risk , but watching it kind of make me care I was in this world . ” And I ’m okay with that .
Real Steel
I fuck athletics film . I love robot movies . Put them together and , of course , I love Real Steel . That makes me part of a fairly small cabaret . avowedly , for a film about automaton pugilism , it ’s incredibly melodramatic . But the effects are top - pass , as are the robot blueprint , and Hugh Jackman bring plenty of appeal and star major power to the film . It ’s not bouldered , but to me it ’s the Rocky of robot packing movies .
Saw II-VII
So far there have been seven Saw films , and except the first movie , almost everyone hates them all . Which , again , I get , but I feel like that ’s because people are looking at them wrong . And maybe that makes me wrong , but here ’s my prospect : I do n’t think of proverb as a serial of seven movies ( with an eighth one on the way ) . I conceive of them as annual episode of a tenacious TV series . The room the picture pick up exactly where the others pass on off , and sometimes close up up on each other , is just really bang-up storytelling . Even if some of the “ episodes ” do n’t hold up individually , need as a whole , it work . contribution 3 and 4 are my pet , but I ’m go to count all of the sequels as picture I believably should n’t be admitted I like .
Sky High
On the open , Sky High may look like an ultra - glossy , made - for - Disney Channel movie about adolescent superheroes . This is almost totally accurate , which is why it ’s been completely forgotten by the world-wide world , but it ’s in reality quite good . Kurt Russell leads a great cast ( including an early , awesome public presentation by Mary Elizabeth Winstead ) in what is basically a mash - up of The Incredibles and Harry Potter , which is just as fun as you could desire it would be .
Thor: The Dark World
Much like my Cars 2 incoming , if you look at any ranking of all the Marvel films , odds are Thor : The Dark World will be near the bottom of the list . And like Cars 2 , I get that , but I also find the God of Thunder ’s second excursion to be think of on every level . Tom Hiddleston and Chris Hemsworth have such capital chemistry , obviously , and that alone make water this worth a watch . Plus , the set pieces are all majestic , it ’s so funny , and the gargantuan last conflict in London ( and across the kingdom ) works extremely well . certainly , the villain Malekith kind of fetor and equate to the other Marvel movies , it falters , but I still wish Thor : The Dark World for its pure amusement value .
Twister
Like Armageddon and Independence Day before it , Twister is a picture show with a lot of fans , but again , I make love it to an awkward degree . Do those fans view it every metre it ’s on ? Sing the Van Halen vocal feature in it ? Quote the picture like Mystery Science Theater 3000 ? Well , I do , and I ’m only marginally afraid to admit it . Twister is just so freaking goofy . Everyone in it ( with the exception of Philip Seymour Hoffman ) does n’t seem to infer the whole step , and that cluelessness work wonders . Plus , for the time , the effects are good and the music is always fantastic . It ’s just one of those pedal - to - the - alloy action film , which is why it ’s still like by many . I just like it way , elbow room more .
The Wizard
Okay , so this is n’t exactly scifi but it still totally fits . You do n’t say , “ Hey , I bonk that eldritch one off Nintendo movie with Fred Savage ” and get coolheaded points most situation , although some consider the movie a cult classic , if only for introducing the public to Super Mario Bros. 3 . But I consider it ’s also a dramatic , almost uncomfortable narration of a broken family . For a feature film - distance Nintendo commercial , it ’s got some real meat on its bones . Watching it these days makes me feel a little awkward but that actually do it much dependable of a moving picture . Plus , the main Thomas Kyd are heavy and all the video game scene still rule .
And do n’t forget , this is just limited to moving picture in io9 ’s wheelhouse — this leaning would probably triple otherwise . So , what about you ? What moving picture are you embarrassed to allow in you love — or love right smart too much ? Do n’t let me be the only one croak out on a branch here !
