Continuing its bold , brave and surprisingly successful eastward - Reader battle with Amazon , Barnes & Noble is soon to establish its 5th Nook gimmick .
Over the weekend , theNew York Times rana long characteristic objet d’art on the book trafficker . tuck away , two - third base of the way through , was a tantalizing nod toward the company ’s future technical school :
“ At its labs in Silicon Valley last workweek , engineers were putting final touches on their 5th east - reading gimmick , a merchandise that executives sound out would be released sometime this spring . ”
woefully , that ’s all we ’ve got to go on . No word on whether it ’s dirt - cheap , some case of iPad contender , or something else entirely . We ’ll just have to look and see what authentic tid - bits work their way out of the rumor mill .
According to the New York Times , Barnes & Noble now sustain a good 27 per cent of the ebook market place , compared to at least 60 percent for Amazon . Considering B&N were a trivial later to the game , that ’s an impressive achievement .
The fact that B&N are reinvesting so heavy is a mansion they believe in the medium . Before long , we might even know them better for technical school than tome .
Elsewhere , theNew York Times paint a wonderful pictureof the power in which the Nook is developed , a kind of literary version of Silicon Valley tech giants :
In one way , a practical wallpaper of Nook color devices hang in row neat as a checkerboard . A vulgar expanse bear a foosball table and a ice chest of VitaminWater . Some of the rampart are made of ash gray - colored mesh topology . Some of the carrell are lime green .
But there are also reminders of the former Barnes & Noble . Over here is a basket of actual books , including “ Travels With Charley ” and “ The Little Prince . ” Over there on a bulwark are enormous vintage covers of books like “ Of Mice and Men ” and “ The Great Gatsby . ”
