Ever since Darth Maul took center stage in the most recent Clone Wars electric discharge , we ’ve been waiting for Chancellor Palpatine to step out of the shadow and shoal Maul as Darth Sidious . eventually , Palpatine has arrive to enforce the Rule of Two , while Obi - Wan Kenobi settle to take a page from Anakin ’s playbook . S
As always , spoilers ahead .
Now that Darth Maul has drink down Pre Vizsla and installed his own tool prime minister for Mandalore , Bo - Katan decides it ’s time friend herself with Duchess Satine , helping Satine ’s loyalist spring the duchess from prison . At first , Satine is suspicious , but softens when Bo - Katan mention that “ the foeman of my foe is my friend . ”
“ We were n’t always opposition , ” Satine says cryptically . “ Perhaps that time has come up again . ”
But when the loyalist endeavor to move Satine from the prison , they ’re set upon by the soldier who are now pledged to Darth Maul and Prime Minister Almec . Before she ’s retake , Satine air a message to Obi - Wan Kenobi ( and comes just timid of saying , “ Help me , Obi - Wan Kenobi . You ’re my only promise . ” ) , outlining the broad stroke of the place on Mandalore , but she makes no cite of Darth Maul . The Jedi jibe that since Mandalore is a electroneutral system and Death Watch is no longer affiliated with the Separatists , there can be no official action from the Jedi . Maul for his part , understands this , telling Almec that if Kenobi comes , it will be alone .
And Kenobi does get alone . He ’s a bit in love with Satine , and asks himself , “ What would Anakin do ? ” He disguises himself as a Mandalorian safety and reenacts ( preenacts ? ) Luke Skywalker ’s rescue of Leia , albeit with less snark .
Their relief valve does not go smoothly , however . They are shoot at by the Mandalorian guard ( these must not be Death Watch members ; their aim is as atrocious as a Stormtrooper ’s ) , and they are eventually forced to evacuate their ship , which explode as they flee . Maul and Savage come along on the shot and capture both Kenobi and Satine .
Although Kenobi did hightail it to Mandalore all by himself with a half - baked program , the next scene reveals just how unlike Anakin Kenobi ultimately is . Maul taunts Kenobi , Force - choking Satine and further him to find the fear and hate that would turn him to the Dark Side . Where Anakin would be angry and impetuous , Obi - Wan remain serene , alternatively attempting to empathize with Maul , reminding Maul that he had no option in joining the Dark Side . Maul , enrage by by Kenobi ’s compassion , fatally reduce his Force grip on Satine ’s windpipe stabs Satine with Pre Vizsla ’s darksaber . She dies in Kenobi ’s arms , telling him that she has always do it him and always will . Obi - Wan takes Maul ’s legs , Maul fill his beloved .
Savage desire to drink down Kenobi , but Maul wants him to grizzle in his sorrow and has him imprisoned or else .

During Kenobi ’s transferee from the prison , Bo - Katan and her crew delivery Kenobi . While they ’re battling their path to the leak ship , Obi - Wan realise why Bo - Katan ally herself with Satine ; she ’s Satine ’s sis . That ’s one family line dinner I ’d love to see .
Meanwhile , Palpatine arrives on Mandalore , and Maul gets to paraphrase the original trilogy line , “ I sense a front … a presence I have n’t feel since … ” He raise his straits in shock and fear , “ Master ! ” Suddenly , the Mandalorian guard duty ascertain themselves pulled into the air and stuck against the walls , and Palpatine saunter in , hooded in full Darth Sidious mode . Maul , despite all of his words about being the master of the Sith , instantly kneeling . “ I ’m impressed to see you ’ve survived your injuries , ” Palpatine tells him coolly . Maul enjoin him that he built all this , direct control of Mandalore and the Shadow Collective , in hope of take back to Palpatine ’s side . But Palpatine is n’t stupid . Eying Savage , he tells Maul , “ You have become a challenger ! ” And with a single gesture , he throws both brothers against the throne room windows and laugh . Thus begins the noble-minded engagement pock Savage and Maul against Darth Sidious .
The buddy put up a valorous fighting , but of course , they ca n’t match Palpatine , who disables Maul and kills Savage . As Savage dies ( no one give-up the ghost quickly in this sequence ; everyone get last Good Book ) , he tell Maul that he was an ugly apprentice . “ There can be only two , ” Palpatine remind Maul , “ and you are no longer my prentice . You have been replaced ! ” And they duel , Palpatine ’s two lightsabers to Maul ’s single brand and Pre Vizsla ’s sword . But it is with his Force powers that Palpatine finally defeats Maul , flip him around before blare him with Force lightning . Maul begs for mercy . “ Do n’t worry , ” Palpatine laughs . “ I ’m not going to kill you . I have other use for you . ” And then continues with the Force lightning . That , kids , is why you do n’t cross Darth Sidious .
