Goonies never say die — and that includes when it comes to a potential sequel.

On Monday, Feb. 3,GooniesstarsCorey Feldman,Jeff Cohenand Kerri Greenreunited with Ke Huy QuanandSean Astinat the TCL Chinese Theatre in Los Angeles for the premiere of their new film,Love Hurts, where both Feldman and Quan suggested they’re interested in a long-awaited sequel to the 1985 adventure-comedy.

“It’s one of the most asked questions in my life,” Quan, 53, toldVariety. “I would love for it to happen.”

Feldman meanwhile told the outlet that he and Astin had worked on developing aGooniessequel about a decade ago, but original director Richard Donner deemed it “too expensive.”

“Sean and I worked really hard on this, and it was a really great idea,” Feldman, 53, said.

“This is the sequel toThe Goonies. It’s got to be expensive, right?” the actor continued.

Donner, who died in 2021, felt differently, according to Feldman.

“He’s like, ‘I want to make it small. I want to make it about the characters — more of a film about these people and where they are now,’ ” theLost Boysstar recalled of Donner’s response. “I was like, ‘Okay, all right. Well, there you go. You’re Dick, you’re the boss.’ ”

Talk of aGooniessequel has been circulating for decades. As far back as 2005, Cohenreportedly claimedat a fan event that while most of the cast along with Donner and the original film’s executive producerSteven Spielbergwere on board, Warner Bros., which owned the rights to the film, was unwilling to finance a sequel. Astin, meanwhile, has consistently expressed optimism over the years that a follow-up would happen.

In 2014, Donner told TMZ that Spielberg, who came up with the idea for the 1985 film, hadan idea for a potential sequel’s storyline.

“Hopefully we’re going to get this done, period,” Donner said at the time.

But during a2020 Zoom reunion with theGooniescast and filmmakers, Spielberg said that while he, Donner, original screenwriter Chris Columbus and producer Lauren Shuler Donner had had “a lot of conversations” about a potential sequel, they could never nail down an idea.

“Every couple of years we come up with an idea but then it doesn’t hold water,” the Oscar-winning director explained.

“Sadly, we lost the captain of our ship [director Richard Donner], who I love dearly, and I really don’t know if there will beGoonies 2,” Quan told reporters, “but I would be open to reliving that character if there is that opportunity.”

But at Monday’sLove Hurtspremiere, Feldman sounded a more hopeful note.

“All I can say is, get us all together,” he toldVariety. “Everybody is looking good. Sean’s looking good.Josh [Brolin]is looking good. We’re all looking good still, and we’re all alive. Goonies never say die … There’s hope.”

And Feldman would know. Prior to theLove Hurtspremiere, Brolin and Columbus joined theGremlinsstar along with Cohen and Green forQuan’s hand and footprint ceremonyin front of the TCL Chinese Theatre.

“I could not be happier for you,”Brolin told Quan in a speech. “I know we all are, all us Goonies here — for an honor that is not only totally deserved, but celebrates all that is right in this industry. Love you, pal.”
