If you had issues with Revolution ’s inconsistent , fresh - faced vision of a future in which the power has gone out , you ’re not alone . serial publication creator Eric Kripke sat down with member of the press during Comic - Con and mark off off the job with Season One and why he believes Season Two will be skilful .
Kripke ’s numerous complaints about Season One came out when one reporter asked him what the these of Season Two would be :
A theme ? Um , pizazz ! [ Laughter ] If last season was about warfare , this season is more about mystery . I still give answers . I still blossom out things at a nice salubrious clip , but I really want to push through … Last season was just about do we finish Monroe and do we flip on a replacement . And it ’s voiceless to confirm as series television . You could make a great film out of that . But what I observe was , it was dispute . I ’m harder on Season One than anyone . My headline is : I ’m out to turn out something for Season Two . I ’m aggressively work on building a good engine here .
The trouble with Season One was it was too dewy-eyed . We either ended up tread water , or we ended up throwing radio-controlled aircraft at the trouble . And just spectacle . And the second one-half of Season One , I ’m just follow and I ’m like , “ Holy shit , there ’s a quite a little of power in this show that has no power ! ” And then when drones are flying around dart car guns at each other , I ’m care , “ Who am I ? ”
And so I really like getting back to rudiments and creating a storyline that I know will affirm , that I hump is going to have some interesting and provocative whodunit , and getting to some of the interesting questions that I ’m interested in ask , which is like : What is America ? Who gets to decide what the future of America will be ? Is there a God ? What happens when you palpate destiny close in on you ? And then all the issues about family , culture vs. savagery . We have a wonderful novel warlord played by Matt Ross , who ’s the creepy warlord . His backstory is he was schoolmaster of a son ’ school when the memory loss happened , and he ’s bequeath with just 200 kids a thousand miles from their homes . He raise them Lord of the Flies way . I felt we spent too much time in Season One talking about engineering science and machine guns and talking about battles and state of war . And what we did n’t hollow into was , await a minute , this is a really fascinating domain and people would evolve in all sorts of interesting ways . We did n’t research what I call the documentary component of this Earth enough . So we ’re really looking for story crease that give us that , too .
So I think it ’s going to be a really interesting unfolding of story lines for Season Two , in a world that will feel gamey . As much as everyone was bothered by how Noxema fresh everyone looked , human , no one was bothered by that more than me . You should have heard me scream on the headphone . But now we ’ve fixed it , and I call back it ’s more interesting looking … . I was like , “ Make them dirty , goddammit ! Why is everyone so clean ? ” So far , I ’m really mad about where we ’re go .
Kripke also tell that he ’s excited about Ben Edlund ( from Kripke ’s show Supernatural ) and Rockne O’Bannon conjoin the authorship staff . Edlund in special walk into the author ’s elbow room with tons of half-baked ideas . “ Ben is Starsky to my Hutch , ” Kripke said . “ So I ’m always more comfortable to be in a room that Ben is in .
