I was not a sports fan of the first time of year of Fear the Walking Dead . The rate was fantastically slow , quality development predictable , and a few moment of glory aside , it simply bored me . For those reason , I was both dreading the season two premiere , while also retaining a whit of optimism . Maybe the team behind the show would bring in their mistakes and see the Light Within ! deplorably , it ’s still a catastrophe .
The second time of year of veneration the walk Dead begins with a at the same time intriguing and disappointing curtain raising scene . The cast is ready to head out to Strand ’s gravy holder , which was teased at the oddment of the first time of year . However , go is the restrained , serene beach community of last time of year ’s finale . Now , the beach — and all of Los Angeles — is on fire . There ’s suddenly uttermost importunity to get to Strand ’s gravy boat before thing get speculative . zombie spirit are attacking everyone on the beach , head are shattered with rocks . Nick attempts a dare deliverance and chop up a zombi spirit ’s face with the boat motor before everyone have forth . Exciting , good ? Gory , right ? Cool John Carpenter - esque score , right-hand ? All of those thing .
But wait . How did LA embark on to burn ? Why this urgency all of a sudden ? It feels like between season , something really epic and interesting happened . And yet , reverence the Walking Dead decided to skip it — the show wholly ignores and carry out from the interesting . In a show that ’s supposed to document the fall of Los Angeles as a microcosm for the degradation of the humankind as a whole , we skip over what could have been the best part . But I guess , why would we need to see Los Angeles actually fall , right ? Let ’s get our characters on to a boat so they can brood for 50 minutes .
From the opening until the instalment ’s final five moment , there ’s very slight substance or legal action in the time of year two premiere . Yes , Chris punches his forefather Travis for killing his mother . They dump her body into the ocean . Strand decide not to help a bunch of other citizenry on the sea . Nick declares that he is in effect at aesculapian stuff . Alicia meets some guy named Jack on the radio . Daniel catches an eel while angle . They all share a nice repast .
But , as has been the case from the offset on Fear the Walking Dead , none of this really finger important . There ’s no exercising weight to it . The show does almost nothing to make us care about fiber or to move the patch forward . A male child is insane his mother died . A lonely female child makes a friend . A survivor acts selfishly . It ’s all just the most introductory , predictable shit conceivable . In a single installment , the fictional character ca n’t even make it 100 mi to San Diego .
The big trouble with Fear the walk Dead is that these characters are flat . None of them are particularly distinctive . They ’re just normal mass . blemished ? Scared ? Yes ! But ultimately normal . They ’re the background role on the Atlanta Walking Dead . Characters who are disposable in a big action vista . Only Fear the walk Dead does n’t have those , so everyone survives .
To be fair , in a timbre scene that feel a picayune World War Z ( the book not the movie ) , there are zombies float in the sea at the end of the sequence as the cast encounter a capsized gravy boat . That was kind of coolheaded . Was this the work of Alicia ’s mysterious Jack ? Is that who is coming for them ?
Hold up , though . Do we care ? Not really . I had hop-skip , after an off - season for observation , revere the walk Dead would ’ve start with some surprising character or plot choices . But no , it ’s just more of the same . After the first time of year , and now this instalment , nothing has changed except the setting .
I ’m sure there ’s a passionate line to be made that I ’m wholly wrong in this appraisal . A rich prima donna could reveal these apparently unobjectionable characters and actions actually signify something majuscule . But I ’d have to be invested to do that , and I ’m just not .
Here ’s the puzzler for the rest of this season of Fear the Walking Dead . I do n’t know if I can muster up the strength .
