Fox News’Bret Baierand his family are doing okay — “banged up, but alive” — after they were involved in a serious car wreck Monday on icy Montana roads, PEOPLE confirms.
The family of four had been skiing this past weekend and were heading to the airport when the crash occurred, Baier said.
“After a weekend of skiing with my wife and two boys in Montana, driving to the airport Monday morning on icy roads, we were involved in a major car crash,” theSpecial Reportanchor explained in his statement to PEOPLE.
“We are very grateful to all of those who helped us out,” he said.
On Monday afternoon, not long after the crash,Baier tweeted: “Don’t take anything for granted – every day is a blessing – and family is everything. It’s always good to remind yourself of that – before something does it for you.”

He added the hashtag #countyourblessings.
Baier’s former Fox colleagueMegyn Kellyon Tuesdaytweeted her support, writing: “[Baier] has faced down plenty of life’s challenges with class, grit and a sense of humor, and he’ll undoubtedly do the same with this one. Much love to you B, Amy, Daniel & Paul.”
Stephen Colbertsaid on his late-night show Monday that Baier had been set to be a guest the following night,according toMediaite. He described the collision in stark language, saying “jaws of life” were needed to get Baier out of his vehicle.
“They were all in the hospital but they’re going to be okay. And we just want to say: We hope you’re doing better,” Colbert said.
The Late Showhost continued: “Bret’s message to everyone out there, is: They’re going to be okay, thank you for your thoughts and prayers for him and his family and, please, wear your seatbelt. It makes a difference.”
Baierhas two sons: Paul, 11, and 8-year-old Daniel. He and wife Amy wed in October 2004.
