It ’s gon na devastate people , and you do n’t want them , you roll in the hay , take the air out of the theater and into traffic . ’ We did it anyways . ” They surely did — and while it was heartbreaking to say farewell to the MCU ’s dad , the gutting was well consider . “ We felt up like we had earned the electric arc that would sense redemptive and emotional and uplifting and hopeful even though he had give his life story , ” Joe said .

Finding the final moment was no comfortable task . Downey improvised lines and they tried a few versions , some more snarky than others , and in the beginning settled on a version where he said nothing when he did his crack . They re - did it three time . It was n’t until their editor Jeff Ford , who also edited the first Iron Man movie , step in with an idea . Anthony excuse , “ He had been on the journey with the part since [ the original ] Iron Man . ” Joe jumped in . “ He hit gaming and Thanos says ‘ I am inevitable ’ and Jeff went ‘ I am Iron - Man . ’ We were like , ‘ kibosh ! ’ … We called Downey , we said ‘ you got ta put the courting back on . ’ He had already say good - bye to the character like double now . ”
