
Neve Campbellis returning to theScreamfranchise.
On Instagram Tuesday, the actress, 50, shared a photo of a script andwrote, “I’m so excited to announce this news!!! Sidney Prescott is coming back!!!!”
“It’s always been such a blast and an honor to get to play Sidney in the Scream movies,” continued Campbell. “My appreciation for these films and for what they have meant to me, has never waned. I’m very happy and proud to say I’ve been asked, in the most respectful way, to bring Sidney back to the screen and I couldn’t be more thrilled!!!”
Campbell also confirmed that Kevin Williamson, who wrote the original 1996Screammovie, as well asScream 2andScream 4, will direct the upcoming seventh installment. Williamson made his directorial debut in 1999 withTeaching Mrs. Tingle.
“While I’ve been so incredibly lucky to make these films with both the master of horror Wes Craven and the wonderfully talented Matt and Tyler team, I’ve dreamt for many years of how amazing it would be to make one of these movies with Kevin Williamson at the helm,” she wrote. “And now it’s happening, Kevin Williamson is going to direct Scream 7!”

“To the amazing Scream fans, I hope you are as excited as I am. See you on set @kevwilliamson,” concluded Campbell.

He continued, “I am overcome with gratitude and excitement, and I can’t wait to take this journey with Neve and the entire Scream family as we bring back Sidney Prescott in the next chapter of the Scream franchise. Campbell first played Sidney in the 1996 filmScreamand returned for each of the sequels except in the 2023 sixth entry.
The actress, in 2022, revealed she made the “very difficult decision” to not return for the sixth film due to a contractual disagreement. She said at the time that she “felt the offer that was presented to me did not equate to the value I have brought to the franchise” for over more than two decades.

Campbell later told PEOPLE she’d be open to returning toScreamif the offer is right.
“I don’t know that I’m done for good,” she told PEOPLE in August 2022 ofany potential for a return. “It would really depend on what they came to me with next. It would have to be different. It would have to be a different attitude, and I’m not sure that’s going to happen.”
“If they came to me with a number that felt right, that felt respectful, that felt in keeping with my value that I brought to the franchise, I’d be willing to consider [returning in the future],” she added at the time.
The seventhScreamfilm has experienced several shakeups in recent months.Lead actress Melissa Barrera was fired from the sequelin November after the studio took issue with her social media posts, then costarJenna Ortega dropped out as well.
Happy Death DaydirectorChristopher Landon was previously tapped to helm the seventh film, but in December announced that he exited the project,writingon X that the “dream job” had “turned into a nightmare.”
