Formal criminal charges have been filed in Florida against a 50-year-old substitute teacher, accused of having a sexual encounter with one of her students and sharing nude photos of herself with others.

It was unclear Friday if she has entered pleas to the charges, and PEOPLE was unable to determine if she has retained an attorney who could comment on her behalf.

She was released on $12,000 bond and efforts to reach her were unsuccessful Friday.

Detectives spoke to the alleged victims, and one, who is 15, claimed that Stanton — who was employed as a short-term substitute — had performed oral sex on him.

Other alleged victims alleged to police they were sent several nude photos of Stanton, which she shared through the popular phone app SnapChat.

Police allege she was active on social media, sending public messages to several of the school’s student-athletes.

“Stanton was a trusted community member who was heavily involved in activities working with our county’s youth,” reads a statement from Sheriff Mike Prendergast. “She used her position to prey on the vulnerability of our children.

“No parent should ever have to worry about their child being victimized like this; especially from someone they viewed as a mentor,” Prendergast added. “We will continue to work with the Citrus County School Board to determine if there are any additional victims.”

Detectives ask that any parent who may believe their child was a potential victim in this case contact Special Victims Unit Sergeant Stephen Conley at (352) 249-2718.
